Nigeria Encourages New Galaxy Backbone Board to Fuel Digitalization (2025–2028)

The Nigerian Federal Government has embarked on a fresh Board of Directors for Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) that is tasked with leading the nation's digital drive between 2025 and 2028. The action fits the government's plan to spur ICT infrastructure improvement and service delivery within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

In his inaugural address, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, reiterated that the government was determined to drive Galaxy Backbone to a more innovative, dynamic, and impactful organization. The organization is set to be a pace setter of Nigeria's digital public infrastructure and service delivery.

Senator Akume will chair the newly appointed board, which consists of the following members:

  • Rabi’a Adamu Waziri – Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)
  • Abubakar Abdulqadir Maje – Joint Stock Association (JSA)
  • Kemi Owonubi – Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI)
  • Mrs. Margareth Ene Ebute – Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy
  • Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju
  • Hon. Olulade Olusegun
  • Olumbe Akinkugbe
  • Sanni Ibrahim Mohammed
  • Adama Pindar – Galaxy Backbone Limited

During his address, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, spoke of the Board's preparedness to guarantee operational sustainability and strategic reorientation. He mentioned that the agency has been able to come up with an Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS), which will shape its goals and operations between 2025 and 2028.
